Fisher's Fabulous First Grade Class

Hello, welcome to our classroom web site! My name is Donnette Fisher and I have been teaching for thirty-two years. Each year as autumn fills the air, it brings a feeling of anticipation and excitement of new hopes, new friends, and new things to discover as school begins again.

I always look forward to meeting and working with these choice children that I have the privilege and joy of having in my class during the next several months. I am excited to get to know each child's personality, hopes, joys, and talents as we share many experiences together. I long to be a positive influence, and motivate each child in a way that will inspire them according to their individual needs and desires.

I love teaching. Children possess such a unique sense of wonder. They are alert, eager, sensitive, responsive, and of course, inquisitive. I am looking forward to a wonderful year filled with many happy times and fond memories.

School Supplies:

Parents, please do not purchase any school supplies for your child. I will personally provide all the necessary supplies your child will need. The only things you will need to provide is a backpack, and a large box of kleenex.

9:00 - 9:15 Spelling - Word Families

9:15 - 9:30 Phonetics bus

9:30 - 9:45 Word/Sentence Work

9:45 - 10:00 Shared Reading

10:00 - 10:15 Morning Recess

10: 15 - 10:55 Calendar/Math Instruction

10:55 - 11:25 Specialty Classes (Library, Music, P.E., Computers)

11:30 - 12:00 Math Groups/Assignment

12:00 - 12:45 Lunch and Noon Recess

12:45 - 1:00 Teacher Reads

1:00 - 2:15 Guided Reading Groups/Seat Work/Centers

2:15 - 2:30 Afternoon Recess

2:30 - 3:00 Writing and Units ( Science, Social Studies, Health)

Homework:

Homework is a valuable extension of classroom learning. It allows parents the opportunity to become involved in their child's education. The homework folders will be sent home each evening. Please have your child read their book aloud, then write two comprehension sentences using the correct spelling and punctuation. Do not copy sentences directly from the book. In addition, have your child practice the high frequency words printed on the back of the monthly homework sheet. Occasionally, math and spelling will be sent home. Parents should sign the homework sheet each day, then return it to school.
