Ice Cream For Chapter Books Program
Please read through the information sent home about the Second Grade Ice Cream For Chapter Books Program that will begin in January and go through April. Please help your child select a chapter book appropriate for his/her reading level and bring it to school to approve with me.
If you want me to help find an appropriate chapter book please sign the note and send it back or just send me a note.
Follow the guidelines given in the letter and attached papers sent home on Monday, January 4, 2010. All students who read a chapter book and do a project to share in class (January-April) will make it to the huge ice cream party in May!
January Library Passports
The theme for this month is your favorite author! Please encourage and help your child to complete his/her passport early in the month. Students receive a HOT Ticket from me and a reward from Mrs. Hansen in the library.
READING FOR SUCCESS/HOMEWORK FOLDERS
There is a change in the home reading program. I will send a note home asking if you would like to have your child continue receiving home reading books. If you choose to find books for your child please keep reading every night for the 5 days or more. The folders are still due every day and I will still record the minutes read every Monday.
If you are having me continue sending home books each night they are due EVERY DAY. Please initial the paper in your child's home reading bag each night and sign the folder each weekend with the number of minutes read for the week. These minutes are recorded each Monday and turned into Mrs. Hanson our Librarian.
If you need the book more than one night please send it back to school and it will be returned. This will help me and the children keep track of where the books are. There will be know books or homework sent home on Fridays or vacation days. Because the goal is to read at least 20 minutes each day for at least 5 days each week, it will be necessary to read a book you already have at home over the weekends and vacations.
FRY WORDS AND PHRASES Your child should be bringing home a half sheet with words or phrases. Please have them practice saying them as fast as they can in one minute. This will will help with fluency. You can do this as part of their reading time.
